Astrid assesses a standing dog

Canine osteopathy

Comfortable movement at every stage of life.

A gentle manual approach for companion, sport and senior dogs, adapted to their build, activity level and character.

The dog as a whole

Looking beyond one painful area.

The underlying principles are the same as for horses: the body is assessed as one interconnected whole. With dogs, particular attention is paid to everyday movements such as walking, running, playing, jumping, turning, standing up and climbing stairs.

Astrid observes posture and movement and assesses joints, spine, muscles, fascia and, where relevant, the skull, jaw and neck. Functional relationships with the visceral and craniosacral systems may also be considered.

“Every dog matters: young or old, athletic or quiet, large or small.”

Possible signs

When may osteopathy be worth considering?

Stiffness

Difficulty getting up or lying down, reduced suppleness or reluctance to use stairs.

Changed gait

Asymmetrical movement, using one side less or difficulty turning.

Less activity

No longer wanting to jump, play or walk as before.

Sport & work

Changes in agility, speed, jumping ability, stamina or movement quality.

After strain

As additional support after injury, surgery, a fall or a period of rest.

Behavioural change

Suddenly avoiding touch or movement, or noticeably demonstrating a lack of energy.
